Criminal case against Deepa SANGRUR, Oct 2 — The Sunam police has registered criminal cases against Rajinder Deepa and Aman Arora, son-in-law and son, respectively, of Mrs Parmeswari Devi, Congress candidate for the Sunam Assembly constituency. A case under Sections 364, 506, 323, 342, 148 and 149 of the IPC Sections 25, 49 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against Mr Rajinder Deepa, Mr Kuljit Nagra and 12 others on the complaint of Mr Harinder Singh from Ludhiana for kidnapping him. Another case has been registered against Mr Deepa, Mr Arora and others on the complaint of Mr Raj Gera from Sunam for making an attack on his house. The case was registered under Sections 323 and 452 of the IPC, according to highly placed police sources, here this evening. Reacting sharply over the registration of cases against Mr Deepa, Mr Arora and other Congress workers, Capt Amarinder Singh, president of the PPCC, talking to TNS over the phone this evening described this step of the police as “revengeful” as the Congress had lodged an FIR against the Ludhiana SSP and an SHO from Ludhiana for kidnapping and beating up Mr Deepa. Capt Amarinder Singh further accused the Sangrur district police of playing into the hands of the Badal government and said the police should not become a party to please the state government. SANGRUR: Meanwhile, counting of votes polled in the byelection to the Sunam Assembly constituency on September 29, will be held on Tuesday at the ITI Sunam.
