17 rockets fired in Rajouri
Joint operation to nab ultras
JAMMU, Sept 25 — The Army, the BSF and the police have launched a joint operation to track down militants who had fired 17 rockets on police and Army posts on the outskirts of Rajouri town last night. Militants, taking advantage of tall maize crop plants, had sufficient time to hide themselves in the fields during the day and when it was dark they launched rocket attacks from different directions. All 17 rockets exploded, but there was no damage because they did not hit the target.

Naik warns petro hoarders
NEW DELHI, Sept 25 — The Centre today warned that stringent action would be taken against dealers and retailers found indulging in hoarding of petroleum products, the prices of which are slated to be hiked by the month-end. “Vigilance has been stepped up... those who hoard will have to pay for it,” Petroleum Minister Ram Naik told PTI.

NEW DELHI, Sept 25 — The government today announced a 10 per cent cut on the consumption of petrol and other petro-products for staff cars as part of austerity measures to bring down non-plan expenditure.

SONEPAT, Sept 25 — The Haryana Government will construct old age homes in every village of the state. Announcing this at a big rally held here to felicitate the Indian National Lok Dal patriarch, Mr Devi Lal, on his 87th birthday, the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, said the old age homes would have facilities even for the stay of the elderly.

ROPAR, Sept 25 — Who is responsible for the big loss suffered by the Punjab State Electricity Board due to the bogging down of Unit-IV of the Ropar Thermal Plant because of a fault in its rotor? This question has assumed significance as Unit-IV is off since August 24 and the PSEB has suffered a loss by way of generation worth about Rs 30 crore.
