Harpreet case:
CBI probe begins JALANDHAR, Sept 14 — The CBI authorities have finally initiated the preliminary investigation into the mystery surrounding the death of Harpreet Kaur, daughter of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief, Bibi Jagir Kaur. The probe will also explore whether there was any evidence on the basis of which they could register a case. The five-member CBI team from Delhi headed by SP Harbhajan Ram came here this morning for four days. The team will visit Begowal, the ancestral village of Harpreet, Phagwara and Kapurthala, which have some connection with the Harpreet episode. The CBI sleuths, including one deputy superintendent, two lady inspectors and one inspector, are likely to record statements of people who are linked with the case, official sources said. The team was also likely to study the circumstances under which the foetus was exhumed by the Phagwara police shortly after the death of Harpreet Kaur, following allegations that she had to undergo an abortion. The foetus was preserved by the Phagwara police. |
