Badal meets Advani

NEW DELHI, Sept 10 — The Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, today apprised the Union Home Minister, Mr L.K. Advani, of the political situation in the state.

During his brief stay in the Capital, Mr Badal called on the Home Minister at his residence and participated in the tributes-paying ceremony of Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Vallabh Pant whose 113th birth anniversary was celebrated here today.

The Chief Minister also called on the Minister for Rural Development, Mr Sundar Lal Patwa who has been convalescing after illness.

Help offers to Roopali

CHANDIGARH, Sept 10 — A large number of social organisations and prominent persons, besides Army officials, have offered to help Roopali Suresh Jadav, an abandoned daughter of a Kargil martyr.

Reacting to a Tribune story published today Mr M.S. Bitta, a former Indian Youth Congress president, offered to assist the girl. Various trust and social organisations, including the Bhai Kanhaiya Charitable Trust, Tanda, the Guru Asra Trust, SAS Nagar, the Ram Tirath Educational Charitable Trust and the Satya Sai Seva Old Age Home, Sector 30, Chandigarh, phoned The Tribune offering help.

Mr D.K. Khanna, a former president of the Rotary Club, Patiala, Ms B.K. Polka, a resident of Sector 18, Chandigarh, and Father Roby from the Roman Catholic Church, Adampur near Jalandhar have shown their willingness to help the girl. The assistance offered included the giving of a job and residential accommodation free of cost.

For the present, the girl has been taken by Ms Shreshta Mehta, honorary secretary of the Chandigarh chapter of the Indian Council of Social Welfare, to her house.
