Punjab ultra among 2 shot in UP

LUCKNOW, Aug 27 (PTI) — Two militants, who were involved in a series of bomb blasts in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab, were killed in a gun fight with the Uttar Pradesh police on the Shamli-Delhi highway in Muzaffarnagar district, an official report said here today.

The encounter took place yesterday after the police were tipped off that two persons were trying to flee after forcibly taking into possession an Indian Tobacco Company (ITC) truck carrying cigarettes worth Rs 58 lakh, the report said.

The militants had forcibly taken possession of the ITC truck on Thursday after intoxicating its driver and the cleaner.

The militants, identified as Sukhbinder, a resident of Ferozepore in Punjab, and Brijendra from New Delhi, were involved in series of bomb blasts in Haryana, Delhi and Punjab.
