Oil depot damaged in Pak shelling
16 militants shot in encounters

BARAMULA, Aug 22 — An oil depot and a bunker were damaged in artillery and mortar shelling by Pakistani troops from across the border in the northern sector of Jammu and Kashmir early today.

Kumaramangalam dead
NEW DELHI, Aug 23 — Power Minister Rangarajan Kumaramangalam died early on Wednesday, a hospital spokesman said. 
"His condition deteriorated during the night and he breathed his last at 4:40 a.m. IST (2310 GMT)," a spokesman for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences said. The minister's body would be embalmed and taken to his official residence in New Delhi later today, he added.

Hizb to declare ceasefire soon
SRINAGAR, Aug 22 — In an apparent break with the Pakistan-based faction, top Hizbul Mujahideen leader in Jammu and Kashmir Abdul Majid Dar today said efforts were under way at the international level to remove the bottlenecks in the way of resumption of talks with the Centre and that the ceasefire would again come into force within two months.
