3 Pak troops shot dead
Attack on forward post in Naushehra
JAMMU, Aug 17 — Indian troops foiled a major Pakistani plan to capture a post in Naushehra sector in Rajouri district, killing three Pakistani soldiers. A Defence Ministry spokesman said here today that a group of Pakistani soldiers intruded into the Indian territory and attempted to capture a forward post in Kalsian area of Naushehra.

2 Hizb men surrender at Rajouri
JAMMU, Aug 17 — The Hizbul Mujahideen received a setback when two of its top activists surrendered before security forces at Rajouri today.

Most of sub’s crew feared dead
MOSCOW, Aug 17 — As rescue efforts intensified to salvage the crippled Russian submarine lying at the sea-bed for the past six days, reports suggested that its captain and 60 of the 116 seamen are feared dead.

NEW DELHI, Aug 17 — The condition of Union Power Minister, Mr P.R. Kumaramangalam, continued to be critical today with multiple organ failure and unstable blood pressure and he remained on life support systems, doctors attending him at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said.
