To our
readers The devastation caused in Himachal Pradesh by the recent floods has no parallel in recent history. Localities have been wiped out, bridges and roads have been swept away, power projects have been inundated and crops have been buried under heaps of silt and sand. In this hour of crisis the state needs moral and material support from the entire nation. Rebuilding its bridges, roads, schools and health centres, repairing its hydro-electric projects, and rehabilitating the sufferers will mean an expenditure of millions of rupees. This money has to come from each one of us. The response to our Kargil and Orissa cyclone relief funds has been tremendous. We appeal to our readers to once again rise to the occasion and donate liberally to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister's Relief Fund to alleviate the suffering of our brethren. Send your crossed cheques or bank drafts, favouring The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister's Relief Fund (payable at Shimla), to The Tribune office, Sector 29-C, Chandigarh. We shall forward your contributions to the authorities concerned who will issue receipts directly to the contributors. The contributions are exempt from income tax under section 80-G of the Income Tax Act. |
