Killings not to hinder talks: PM
 NEW DELHI, Aug 4 — India will not give up efforts for restoring peace in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the recent brutal killings of 100 pilgrims and locals in the state, the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, said in both Houses of Parliament today.

NHRC notice on J&K killings
NEW DELHI, Aug 4 — Acting on media reports alleging intelligence warnings were ignored by the authorities prior to the gruesome killings of about 100 persons in Jammu and Kashmir early this week, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued notices to Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir Government asking them to reply within four weeks.

Body of German tourist found
 JAMMU, Aug 4 — The body of a German tourist, Herfurth Rolf, who was abducted by militants on July 11 in the Zanskar area of Ladakh after they had killed three Buddhist monks, was fished out of Shapat Nullah in the Kishtwar belt of the troubled Doda district on last evening.

Army officers beat up recruit
 KASAULI, Aug 4 — Vineet Rana, a 17-year-old youth, hailing from Bakloh village in Chamba district, had least wondered what his trip to 14 Gorkha Training Centre, Subathu, about 30 km from here, for his training as a recruit would yield. Selected on June 12, as a recruit, Vineet’s ordeal started on the evening of July 1 around 9 p.m. when he was talking to his parents from a STD booth in Subathu.
