15 lakh recovered from lockers NEW DELHI, July 26 (PTI) — The Income Tax (IT) authorities today opened three more lockers belonging to a bookie and recovered jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh from it, IT sources said here. With this the number of lockers, sealed during the massive searches conducted by the authorities on the premises of top cricketers, administrators and bookies, opened since yesterday goes to five. Highly-placed IT sources said jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh was found in two lockers opened today while contents of the third one were still being scrutinised. The three lockers belonged to a bookie and his relatives. The authorities found jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh reportedly from a cricketer’s locker opened yesterday. The sources said the authorities were ascertaining whether the jewellery had been included in the annual returns filed by the cricketer before initiating action against him. In a nationwide swoop on July 20, IT officials raided premises of cricketers, including Kapil Dev, Ajay Jadeja, Ajay Sharma, Nikhil Chopra and Manoj Prabhakar, Mohammed Azharuddin and Navjot Singh Sidhu, ICC ex-chief Jagmohan Dalmiya and Worldtel chairman Mark Mascarenhas and BCCI treasurer Kishore Rungta. |
