Court discharges Thackeray
Case time-barred ;12 Sena MLAs suspended
MUMBAI, July 25 — Amid high drama, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray was today arrested and produced before a city court in unprecedented police escort only to be released by a magistrate who declared that the case of inciting riots against him was “time-barred.” Ending 10 days of fear and tension that Mr Thackeray’s arrest could spark violence, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate B.P. Kamble said in a brief order that “the offence registered cannot be taken congnizance of. It is time-barred. The accused is released and the offence is closed.”

RS adjourned amid ruckus
NEW DELHI, July 25 — The Rajya Sabha was adjourned abruptly for the day today in the post-lunch session as Shiv Sena members clashed with Opposition Congress members while attempting to raise the issue of the release of their leader Bal Thackeray.

113 killed in Paris air crash
PARIS, July 25 — In the first aviation disaster involving a Concorde, an Air France supersonic jet crashed near Charles de Gaulle Airport here this afternoon minutes after takeoff killing at least 113 persons, mostly German tourists.

High-level team to probe blast
JALANDHAR, July 25 — Even as the police has constituted a high-level inter-district team headed by the Jalandhar range DIG, Mr Suresh Arora, to probe the incident of a blast in a private bus near Ballan village which left seven passengers dead and 25 injured last evening, preliminary investigation has indicated that the blast was caused by a high-explosive device like the RDX or the PETN.

NEW DELHI, July 25 — Two lockers, one belonging to a cricketer, were opened by the Income Tax Department here today, setting in the process of examining the contents of a large number of lockers sealed during the countrywide raids last week against cricketers, board officials and bookies.

Ceasefire move annoys ultras
JAMMU, July 25 — All-party Hurriyat Conference seems to have been placed a piquant situation following the decision of the Hizbul Mujahideen to declare ceasefire for three months. Jamait-ul-Mujahideen have condemned the decision. The APHC Chairman, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, refused to comment on the decision. He said the issue “will be discussed by the executive committee of the organisation possibly on Wednesday.”
