CPI-ML leaders clash with police

PATNA, July 11 (PTI) — Three CPI-ML leaders along with several party supporters were injured as the police resorted to lathi charge and fired teargas shells to disperse hordes of party workers, who gheraoed the Bihar Legislature complex today in protest against the Mianpur massacre of 34 Dalits and persons belonging to the Backward classes last month.

Several thousand lathi-wielding CPI-ML volunteers carrying red flags and banners uprooted iron barriers erected around the prohibited zone and fought pitched battles with the police outside the complex compelling them to lathi charge and teargas the protesters, State Home Commissioner U.N. Panjiar told PTI.

The agitators, divided in groups of several hundreds descended on the complex from all four sides after breaking the iron barriers and began stoning policemen injuring many of them, Mr Panjiar said.
