No search
panel yet on
VC’s
selection CHANDIGARH, July 7 — No
search committee has been set up so far for the appointment of a new
Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University even as the present incumbent, Prof
M.M. Puri, completes his term on July 22, informed sources said here
today. The Chancellor has not yet revealed his mind on the procedure he
would prefer to adopt for the appointment, the sources said. The
Chancellor has three options. Professor Puri can be given an extension
after his term ends. The Chancellor can also set up a search committee
after allowing the present Vice-Chancellor to continue till the former
receives the committee report. The Chancellor also has the power to
appoint a new Vice-Chancellor without constituting a search panel. The
University Calendar clearly states that the Chancellor can appoint the
new Vice-Chancellor without specifying the procedure to be
followed. There are also speculations that the Chancellor himself could
announce the name without constitution of a search committee. “ The
reason is that the present Chancellor happens to be well acquainted with
the academic scenario around., sources said. The term of Professor Puri
has been a mixed one. One cannot deny the developmental work. |
