Atal Behari VajpayeeNEW DELHI, July 1— The Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, today held a series of meetings with NDA leaders and his party colleagues to discuss the Jammu and Kashmir autonomy issue even as the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah, arrived here on way to attend the MDMK conference at Erode in Tamil Nadu.

2 killed, 7 hurt in train mishap
Rail traffic between Delhi, Amritsar disrupted
AMBALA, July 1 — Two persons were killed and seven sustained injuries when the Howrah-Amritsar Express rammed into the empty rake of stationary Ambala City-Saharanpur passenger train in Ambala City early this morning.

Passengers stranded in region
CHANDIGARH, July 1 — Thousands of passengers were delayed or stranded all across railway stations North of Delhi or were sitting inside trains running late by several hours as an accident near Ambala on the main trunk line at 4: 50 this morning forced the diversion or delay of almost 200 up and down trains that pass through Ambala.

NANDED (Maharashtra), July 1 — Even as Bhai Kulwant Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib, Abchal Nagar, Nanded, has claimed that he could not be removed as jathedar till his death as per the “maryada” of the takht, Mr Sher Singh Fouji, president of the Hazur Sahib Board, has reiterated that “panj pyaras” were employees of the board and action could be initiated against them if they were found guilty of religious misconduct.

GAZA CITY, July 1 — India today pledged to open up its fast emerging information technology and knowledge-based industry to the people of Palestine to help them achieve economic and political aspirations.

HP cops to get spl allowance
 SHIMLA, July 1 — The Chief Minister, Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal, today announced a special allowance to the police personnel in the Vigilance and Enforcement departments on the pattern of the state CID. This would benefit the caders from constables to DSPs both wings of the department and put a financial burden of about Rs 7 lakh on state exchequer.

Haryana education policy okayed
 CHANDIGARH, July 1 — The Haryana Cabinet today approved the new State education policy-2000 at its meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, here.
