No move to free TADA detainees: DGP

JALANDHAR, May 31 (PTI) — Punjab Police chief Sarabjit Singh today said no directions had been received from any quarters for the release of militants booked under the Terrorist and Disruptive Practices (Prevention) Act.

"There are 33 terrorists booked under TADA in jails in Punjab and elsewhere in the country. Trials in all these cases are currently on. These militants have been booked in cases of murder, dacoity or under the Explosives Act," the Director-General of the state police told reporters here.

He said so far the police had received no direction from the state government for review of any of the TADA cases. "Everything is in the hands of the court," he said.

Union Home Minister L.K. Advani had recently hinted at a move to review the TADA cases in Punjab.
