Officer
held on graft charge FEROZEPORE, May 23 — A Punjab Roadways Divisional Manager Mr N.K. Wadhawan, was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from an Inspector here this evening. The flying squad recovered the amount from Mr Wadhawan. Disclosing this to the TNS, the SP (Vigilance), Mr Hardayal Mann, said that the suspect was caught red-handed on the complaint of Mr Sukhjeet Singh, an Inspector. Mr Wadhawan had earlier demanded Rs 5,000 from the inspector to confirm him as an inspector in the department. Although this was a fit case for confirmation, Mr Wadhawan had refused to oblige him and demanded money for the favour. Subsequently, a deal was struck at Rs 5,000 and Sukhjeet had the trap laid for Mr Wadhawan. Sukhjeet, who had joined the department in 1995 awaited his confirmation as inspector. Despite his having a work experience with a Ludhiana-based Nirbhai Roadways, Mr Wadhawan did not entertain him citing closure of the company as reason. To ensure transparency of the arrest, the Vigilance Bureau team took along with them the SDM, Mr D.P.S. Kharbanda, and Dr Parminder Singh. |
