Match-fixing: Advani hints at CBI probe

GANGTOK, April 22 (PTI) — Union Home Minister L.K. Advani today did not rule out possibility of a “comprehensive” inquiry by the CBI into all aspects of cricket match-fixing.

“Whatever is necessary will be done...Including a probe by the CBI or another agency. But it all depends on the Delhi police submitting its comprehensive inquiry report,” he told reporters here. Answering a question whether a CBI probe into the issue was not possible in the near future, he said: “I have not said that.”

Mr Advani asserted that the government was keen to see that any individual who had indulged in “serious misdeeds like these and brought shame to the game and respective countries was severely dealt with.”

CUTTACK: A public interest petition has been filed in the Orissa High Court seeking a CBI probe into the allegations of match fixing and betting in cricket reported during the past four years.

The petitioner, Kamini Kanta Mohanty, a cricket lover, moved the court yesterday praying a direction to the CBI to investigate the allegations raised by former players, coaches and managers.Back
