Serla Grewal heads The Tribune
Trust CHANDIGARH, April 20 Mrs Serla Grewal, a Trustee, has succeeded Mr B.K. Nehru, ICS (retd), as the President of The Tribune Trust. Mr Nehru has stepped down for health reasons but decided to continue as a Trustee. Mrs Grewal has brought to The Tribune group of publications mature practical experience gained during decades of public service in various top administrative jobs and high policy-making governmental positions. She joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1952; she was the second lady in the country to become an IAS officer. She held several important executive positions in Punjab. Her tenure as the Deputy Commissioner of Simla is remembered with as much appreciation as the diverse hierarchy of responsibilities shouldered by her in the fields of education, family welfare, food and supplies, and industries in Punjab. Her commitment to health
and social growth took her to important forums like the
World Health Organisation and UNICEF, besides the
headquarters of the UN Population Commission in the late
seventies and early eighties. She was also associated
with the Indian Council of Medical Research.
Subsequently, she became Secretary to the Prime Minister
of India, and the Governor of Madhya Pradesh. |
