Congress rejects Advani’s offer

NEW DELHI, April 6 (UNI) — The Congress today rejected outright Home Minister L.K. Advani’s offer for a limited alliance with the BJP to defeat the Left Front in West Bengal saying both the parties are ideologically poles apart and hence even a limited arrangement is ruled out.

Commenting on Mr Advani’s offer, Congress spokesperson Ajit Jogi made it clear that no alliance or seat adjustment with the BJP is possible in any part of the country.

He was reacting to Mr Advani’s statement in Ahmedabad that the BJP is in favour of joining hands with the Congress to form a grand alliance against the ruling CPI(M) in West Bengal. He said there was nothing wrong in joining hands even with the Congress to break the stranglehold of the CPI(M) in West Bengal.

On the life sentence given to former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Mr Jogi declined to comment.
