RBI cuts bank rate, CRR
MUMBAI, April 1 — In a bid to boost investment, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today cut the bank rate and the cash reserve ratio (CRR) by 1 per cent, each paving the way for lowering of interest rates by banks and raising the availability of funds for lending by about Rs 7,200 crore.

— A reduction in bank rate from its present level of 8.0 per cent to 7.0 per cent as at the close of business on April 1, 2000.

7 killed in mishap near Barwala
PANCHKULA, April 1 — Seven persons, including three women and a 10-year-old girl, were killed and 19 others injured in an accident involving three buses, near Barwala on the Panchkula-Naraingarh road this afternoon.

Security posts for Sikh villages
CHATTI SINGHPORA (Anantnag), April 1 — The Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to set up security pickets in each of the 135 villages inhabited by Kashmiri Sikhs.

Maruti cars to cost more in NCR
NEW DELHI, April1 — Prices of several Maruti car models have gone up further in the range between Rs 14,000 to Rs 40,000 from today due to compliance with the stringent Euro-II emission norms in the National Capital Region.

Petrol, diesel dearer in Delhi
