Anju was killed: sister
From Our Correspondent and agencies

NEW DELHI, March 31 — The elder sister of Anju Ilyasi, who is a non-resident Indian, today claimed she had all evidence to prove that Anju had not committed suicide. “It is a murder case,” she alleged.

“I have come from Canada to get justice for my sister who was nine years younger to me. My brother, Prashant and father, Dr K.P. Singh, are under extreme mental torture. That is why they are not giving a statement against Suhaib Ilyasi”, she said.

While addressing a press conference, Ms Rashmi Singh said: “It was me who looked after Anju, even after her marriage. Since her marriage in 1993 she was mentally and physically tortured for dowry by her husband and in-laws”.

“I used to give money from time to time to Suhaib through my sister to satisfy his greed. All items in Suhaib’s IFS flat in Mayur Vihar in East Delhi were brought by me,” she said.

Ms Rashmi Singh, a businesswoman in Canada, said: “My sister was very close to me. She discussed all her problems with me”.

She said on the fateful day Anju had called her up in Canada. However, she refused to disclose the contents of their dialogue, saying “it could hamper investigations”.

She said it was not true that she wanted the custody of Aaliya.

She said she had asked for security guards as she did not like the entry of members of Suhaib’s family in her parents’ flat at UNESCO Apartments, Patparganj.

Asked what was the basis of her allegation that Suhaib had two passports, Ms Rashmi Singh said: “Xerox copies of both travel documents were taken by Anju and I only managed to hand these to the police”.

On the delay in breaking her silence, she said: “It took me some time to come out of shock. Another reason for my delay in appearing before the SDM was to verify every fact and be doubly sure,” she explained.

Asked about the cause for Anju’s death earlier attributed to tension between the couple over a “fan’s (Narender Chadda’s) obsession” for Suhaib, Ms Rashmi said: “Narender was made a scapegoat. But there were some relations between the two.”
