MiG crashes in Kargil

JAMMU, March 25 — One Air Force MiG crashed in Kargil today. The two pilots bailed out to safety. Police sources said that the MiG was on its training flight when the pilot lost control because of some mechanical fault.

The planecrashed in the premises of Degree College, Kargil. According to a PTI report, one of the pilots was seriously injured.

Surjewala is new Youth Cong chief

NEW DELHI, March 25 — Mr Randeep Surjewala was today appointed as the new Chief of the Indian Youth Congress. He replaces Mr Manish Tewari whose resignation has been accepted by the party.

The appointment of former Haryana MLA Mr Randeep Surjewala, 33 was announced by AICC Treasurer Ahmed Patel here today.

Son of former Haryana MP and PCC Chief, Mr Shamsher Singh Surjewala, Mr Randeep Surjewala was elected as the youngest MLA in Haryana in 1996 when he defeated Mr Om Prakash Chautala. He was the Chief Whip of the Congress legislature party and also its Spokesperson.

In the 1999 Haryana Assembly elections, he lost to the Chief Minister, Mr Chautala in Narwana by a slender margin of 2,162 votes.

A practising lawyer, Mr Randeep Surjewala had challenged the decision of the state government on panchayat polls.

Earlier he held the position of joint-secretary of the Haryana State Youth Congress in 1982 and later served as its general secretary.

His appointment brings to an end lobbying for the post on in the party.
