Railway Budget today

NEW DELHI, Feb 24 (PTI) — Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee will present the Railway budget for 2000-01 in Parliament tomorrow amidst indications that a further hike in fares and freight rates is on the cards.

Ms Banerjee, the first Woman Railway Minister, is said to have resisted pressures from the Railway bureaucracy for an easy option of increasing freight and fares for mopping up additional resources to cover the deficit and take up new development projects.
