BJP disowns remarks on farm tax

NEW DELHI, Feb 16 (UNI, PTI) — The BJP today clarified it has not written to the Union Finance Minister to tax the agriculture sector in the coming Budget.

Party General Secretary M. Venkaiah Naidu said reports in a section of the Press — quoting party Vice-President Jana Krishnamurthy — in this regard were ‘‘totally incorrect’’.

Mr Naidu told reporters that he had spoken to Mr Krishnamurthy. What was said was regarding the rich farmers. Even those views were that of Mr Krishnamurthy alone and not that of the party.

He said he had spoken to the Finance Minister on the issue and was told that the ministry had neither received any communication from Mr Krishnamurthy nor from the party in this regard.
