Hijack drama ends; 21 held
60 passengers seek asylum
LONDON, Feb 10 — The five-day hijack drama at Stansted airport abruptly ended this morning with all 150 persons on board the Afghan airliner walking off as the police arrested 19 suspected hijackers and seized some arms and ammunition. A police spokesman said that two more persons were arrested later, bringing the total to 21.

Haryana voters must prove identity
NEW DELHI, Feb 10 — The Election Commission (EC) today directed that all voters in Haryana, who have been issued electoral identity cards, will have to produce these cards when they come to exercise their franchise for the assembly poll on February 22 while others will have to produce some documentary evidence to establish their identity.

3 killed in train blast
JAMMU, Feb 10 — At least three persons were killed and 13 were injured when a powerful bomb blast ripped through an air-conditioned compartment of Jammu-Sealdah Express near Sapwal, 35 km from here, tonight.

PATNA, Feb 10 — RJD President Laloo Prasad Yadav today voluntarily offered film producer Deepa Mehta to shoot her controversial movie “Water’’ in Bihar even as Union Minister for Industries and Shiv Sena leader, Manohar Joshi, threatened that the Shiv Sainiks would not allow its filming anywhere in the country, including Madhya Pradesh.

WASHINGTON, Feb 10 — Foreign Secretary Lalit Mansingh has met several senior U.S. officials, including White House National Security Adviser Sandy Berger, for a comprehensive exchange of views, going far beyond the limited agenda of finalising President Clinton’s visit to India next month.
