By Dharam Pal TABORA (Tanzania, East Africa)-born Dhola ...." girl Bina Mistry is one of the popular pop singers of today. The beautiful, talented young singer has opted for a passion that she had nurtured since her childhood. Why would anyone give up a plum job as a manager in Merchant Bank? The answer is music. It was her passion for music that prompted Bina Mistry to chuck her job as a banker and pursue her love for music. While studying in London, she used to sing film songs at community events and functions. Slowly as the Asian population there grew, so did the demand. She had teamed up with Bali Brahmbhatt for a number of years and their album "Cha party" was one of the first remixes to come into the market. It was during her short stay in Bangalore that Bina Mistry got hooked on to Hindi movies and their lilting melodies. Having moved to London, she found it difficult to find friends in school who could play Antakshari with her. After having qualified as an ACIS, she joined Price Waterhouse and later moved on to Merchant Banking. But her love for music had never died and she soon quit her job and did what her heart wanted her to do, which was to sing. Bina Mistry got her first break as a Radio DJ and later she shifted to television, both as a producer as well as a VJ. Soon, she was involved in the production of many music shows. Bina Mistrys first album Hot Hot Hot was a runaway hit. With this hit, she was labelled the Hot Hot girl. Then came Dhola from the album A Reason to smile, which was a big hit. The video for the same track received critical acclaim from the media. With two hit albums to her credit, Bina Mistrys first Hindi pop album Lollipop, released by Magnasound, is doing good business. Lollipop, produced in London by the India Beat Corporation and with lyrics by Bina, Preet Nihal and Gulshan- ul Amin, promises to be yet another feather in Binas hat. * * * The Dubai-born vivacious and talented BPL Oye girl, shows her versatility as a new pop singer with the peppy bhangra number Bauji Bauji... from her first album Komal.
