Advani broke promise: Jaya

TIRUCHIRAPALLI, Sept 15 (PTI) — AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha today accused Union Home Minister L.K. Advani of going back on his promise to take action against the DMK government for Coimbatore bomb blasts.

Addressing a big public meeting here to mark the 90th birth anniversary of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai, Ms Jayalalitha said Mr Advani, who came here on February 14 after his providential escape at Coimbatore, had assured the people of Tamil Nadu that action would be taken against the state government if the BJP-led front was voted to power at the Centre.

"But that gentleman has forgotten his own words after coming to power’’, she charged.

"I expected action will be taken against the DMK government but seven months have lapsed. Those who spoke with vigour, have become silent now", she said.

She recalled Mr Advani’s remarks that a former DMK MLA had prior knowledge about the blasts and said: "I myself had witnessed the anger of that big man, but all his words had been rendered empty.’’

Ms Jayalalitha made no direct reference to her party’s relationship with the BJP-led government at the Centre or her allies in Tamil Nadu but said cryptically that some parties thought that the AIADMK was like "kariveppelai" (coriander), used in curry, which would be thrown as waste.

"The AIADMK was used as a ladder. Once the purpose was served, they abandoned the ladder,’’she added.back
