UT-Ludhiana rail link cleared

Chandigarh, Sept 9 — The Economic Affairs Committee of the Union Cabinet that met in New Delhi tonight cleared the Chandigarh- Ludhiana rail link, according to Mr Ramesh Inder Singh , Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Punjab.

In the first phase, he added, funds had been allocated to link Chandigarh with Morinda. The work will be completed by Baisakhi next year thus providing a direct link between Chandigarh and Ropar and Anandpur Sahib.

This will facilitate the movement of pilgrims and tourists going to Takht Kesgarh Sahib on the tercentenary of the birth of the Khalsa.

The approval for the second stage linking Morinda with Ludhiana would be accorded later, he said.
