Clinton warns Yeltsin of
war in S. Asia


MOSCOW, Sept 1 — The US President, Mr Bill Clinton, today urged his Russian counterpart Boris Yeltsin to stop military cooperation with India and warned that nuclear rivalry in South Asia could lead to a "direct war" between the two nuclear superpowers.

The decision was taken during a talk between Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Vasundhara Raje and Pakistan Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz on the sidelines of the NAM Summit.

Tohra meets two Jathedars
PATIALA, Sept 1 — SGPC president Gurcharan Singh Tohra today held a closed-door meeting with Prof Manjit Singh, Jathedar, Sri Kesgarh Sahib, and Giani Kewal Singh, Jathedar, Sri Damdama Sahib, at gurdwara Dukhnivaran Sahib here today and discussed ways to resolve the ongoing "jathedars' controversy".
