Salman released, rearrested
JAIPUR, Oct 15 (UNI, PTI) — Film star Salman Khan was today released on bail in a case of hunting in the Guda Vishnoiyon region of Jodhpur only to be arrested immediately afterwards over the killings of two chinkaras in Mathania region in the same district. An official spokesman told UNI that the Bollywood star was released on bail by the Civil Judge Jodhpur (first) L. N. Kiradoo on production of surety and a bail bond of Rs 50,000 in connection with killings of two black bucks and a chinkara in Guda Vishnoiyon region on October 2. The spokesman said Salman was, however, immediately arrested by the police in connection with killings of two chinkaras in Mathania region on September 26 and 28.The arms allegedly used by actor Salman Khan for shooting protected wild animals near Jodhpur have been brought here from Mumbai and handed over to the forest officials investigating the case. The arms included a point 22 gun and a revolver, HL Meena, Conservator of Forests (wild life) said today. The arms were brought here from Mumbai last night by the relatives of the actor.

DHAKA, Oct 15 (PTI) — Four former ministers and several former senior Army officers were among 21 people formally charged today with the killing of four top aides of late Bangladesh leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on November 3, 1975. Of the accused — former ministers Taheruddin Thakur, K.M. Obaidur Rahman (Presently BNP MP), Shah Moazzem Hossain (co-chairman of Jatiya Party’s breakway faction) and Nurul Islam Manju (presently a BNP leader) and former Army officers Lt Colonel Farooq Rahman, Col Shariar Rashid Khan and Major Khairuzzam are already under arrest.

15 die in bus accident
INDORE, Oct 15 (UNI) — At least 15 persons, including two women and two children, were killed and 24 injured when a bus fell into the Koram river late last night in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident. The bus tried to overtake another vehicle and rammed into the railing of the bridge and plunged into the river.
Ambush
SHILLONG, Oct 15 (PTI) — Six persons, including five policemen, were killed and five police personnel injured as militants ambushed their vehicle and looted Rs 10 lakh in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills district, the police said today. Besides the money, the militants looted a light machinegun, two sten guns and six .303 rifles.

MANILA, Oct 15 (AFP) — At least nine persons were killed and 21 others, including five foreign divers, reported missing after typhoon Zeb hit the Philippines, official sources said today. The victims were asleep in their homes when mud came cascading down from mountain slopes, a police report said.
Age limit up
NEW DELHI, Oct 15 (UNI) — The union government has decided to raise the age limit for all board level appointments in public sector undertakings (PSUs) to 58 years. The Industry Ministry’s decision to raise the cut-off age limit for board- level appointments from 56 to 58 years is a sequel to the union government’s earlier decision to raise retirement age for government employees to 60 years.
Fatwa to stay
DHAKA, Oct 15 (DPA)— The main Muslim radical organisation in Bangladesh spearheading protests against feminist writer Taslima Nasreen said today a death sentence against her would not be withdrawn despite appeals from her dying mother. "The fatwa condemning Ms Nasreen to death remains in place despite forgiveness sought by her mother," said Mufti Fazlul Huq Amini, secretary-general of the Islamic United Alliance.
China-Taiwan talks
BEIJING, Oct 15 (PTI) — The second round of China-Taiwan talks began today with both sides describing the parleys as candid and constructive, but showing no signs of budging. Top Chinese negotiator Wang Daohan insisted the key to improving cross-straits relations lay in opening political negotiations on re-unification, while Taipei stuck to its line that the priority for any talks must be practical matters affecting the safety of Taiwanese residents and investors in the mainland.
Rockets fired
QIRYAT SHEMONA, (Israel), Oct 15 (AFP) — A volley of Katyusha rockets landed in northern Israel today but did not cause any damage or casualties, military sources said, the rockets landed harmlessly in a field. The rocket attack came one day after an Israeli soldier was slightly wounded in a mortar barrage on an Israeli army position on the border with Lebanon. The Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia claimed responsibility for the attack.

NEW DELHI, Oct 15 — The CBI has arrested PLS group of companies chairman R.K. Srivastava on the charge of cheating investors to the tune of Rs 40 crore. The accused, who had been absconding since last year, was today remanded into CBI custody for two weeks. The bureau had announced a reward of Rs one lakh for furnishing information leading to the arrest of Srivastava.
Islamisation Bill
ISLAMABAD, Oct 15 (PTI) — Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has conceded that his ruling party is not in a position to get the Islamisation Bill passed by the Senate after an ally of his Pakistan Muslim League (PML) declared that it would oppose the measure in the 87-member House. "The PML with 26 seats is not in a position to get the required two-thirds majority in the Senate for the passage of the Bill, but there is no harm in trying to get the Bill passed", Mr Sharif told reporters in Quetta yesterday.Top
