2 killed in ambush
IMPHAL, Nov 22 (PTI) — An Army jawan and an underground activist were killed when armed extremists ambushed a patrol at Tonsen Lage area in Thoubal district today. Official reports said an Army patrol, on duty in the area, 55 km south-west of here, was attacked by underground activists armed with automatic weapons, killing the jawan, Darshan Singh, on the spot. Another jawan, Prem Singh, suffered serious bullet wounds.

Jiang in Moscow
BEIJING, Nov 22 (PTI) — Chinese President Jiang Zemin flew to Moscow today for informal talks with his Russian counterpart Boris Yeltsin on a host of bilateral and International issues, including India’s stand on the NPT and CTBT. Both Moscow and Beijing will urge New Delhi and Islamabad to sign the two major treaties on proliferation and also implement them, diplomatic sources said while noting the inadequate progress made so far in this direction.

CPM leaders shot
AGARTALA, Nov 22 (PTI) — Two CPM leaders have been killed and three persons kidnapped in separate incidents in Tripura, while militants released three persons, including a head constable, the police said here today. NLFT militants gunned down a CPM leader at the Tuisarang Chakbari area in West district yesterday. The ultras also shot dead a former CPM panchayat member from Kehengrai village.

Pleas dismissed
NEW DELHI, Nov 22 (PTI) — The Delhi High Court has dismissed two petitions filed by Jagson Airlines Limited and Skyline NEPC Limited challenging the imposition of fines and charging interest by the Customs Department on the non-payment of inland air travel tax (IATT) by the two private airlines. A Division Bench comprising Mr Justice Y.K. Sabharwal and Mr Justice K.S. Gupta said the court was of the opinion that the penalty and interest charged by the department was valid and "both writ petitions are dismissed".
