Deputy Speaker's election today
NEW DELHI, Dec 16 (PTI) — Veteran Congress MP and consensus candidate P.M Sayeed will be elected Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha tomorrow as no nomination on behalf of any other candidate was filed on the last day of filing papers today. As many as 25 sets of nomination papers favouring Mr Sayeed’s candidature have been filed in the past two days.

Undertrial escapes
NEW DELHI, Dec 16 (PTI) — An undertrial prisoner, who was to be produced in a city court here today, fled from the custody of three Uttar Pradesh policemen allegedly by drugging them last night, police sources said. Sayyad Haseem (28), who was brought here by the Uttar Pradesh police in connection with two cases pending against him, managed to flee after the policemen consumed food offered by him at a hotel in the walled city, they said.

Fog engulfs Delhi
NEW DELHI, Dec 16 (PTI) — A thick fog, which enveloped Delhi for a few hours this morning, disrupted air, rail and road traffic throwing normal life out of gear. School children and early office-goers were the worst hit as vehicles with their headlights on moved at a snail’s pace since visibility was reduced to less than 100 metres. No domestic or foreign flights could take off as scheduled from Delhi.

100 killed in Angola
LUANDA, Dec 16 (AFP) — More than 100 persons were killed in a grenade and machine gun attack at a disused railway station in Kunje, Central Angola, the Roman Catholic Radio Station Ecclesia reported today. The government military authorities blamed the attack on diehard supporters of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola.
