Bid to break deadlock
DURBAN, Aug 30 — The Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan today held "lengthy discussions" on the sidelines of a preparatory session of the NAM summit in a bid to break the deadlock.

Govt defends, Opposition slams Ordinance
NEW DELHI, Aug 30 — The process for the selection of a new Chief Executive Officer in place of Mr S.S. Gill and the Chairman of the Prasar Bharati Board will start within a week, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Mrs Sushma Swaraj, said here today.

Vajpayee's comments
interference: Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 — Pakistan today reacted sharply to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s comments on its Islamisation process by calling it "an unwarranted interference" in its internal affairs. "Vajpayee had no business to criticise us on our internal matters," Pakistani Information Minister Mushahid Hussain told newsmen here.
 

5 militants killed in
Jammu & Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Aug 30 — Eight persons, including five militants were killed in separate incidents, while security forces apprehended three suspects and recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition from different areas across the valley since yesterday.Three unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with the Army at Raji Chak near Aragam in Baramula district.
